    WEATHER

The weather in Islamabad is scorching during the summer season. You can expect a temperature between 30-40 degrees centigrade. If you travel by road to Skardu, expect the weather to be scorching as well. In Skardu, the weather is similar to Islamabad, except 25-38 degrees centigrade. During the trekking on sunny days, expect the weather to be warm without any shade. Especially during the trek between Askole/Jhula to Urdukas, the weather will be scorching on those days. It is advised to have proper sun protection in the form of an umbrella, a wide-brim hat, and plenty of sunscreens. However, the weather in the nighttime is cooler above 4000 meters; you can even expect the temperature to get down to below zero and experience snowfall.

    WHO SHOULD DO THE TREK?

K-2 Base Camp Hike is a wilderness trek, with no access to towns/villages and limited inhabitants during the whole duration (two weeks) of the trek. You will hike as high as 5150 meters (K-2 Base Camp) and the trekking route is strenuous with river crossings, uneven terrain, glaciers, and boulders on the way. Trekking K2 is a physically demanding activity requiring a high fitness level. You should have good cardiovascular endurance and be able to hike for several hours at a time. Training your leg muscles by doing exercises such as lunges and squats is also a good idea.

The best time to trek K2 is from June to September. The weather is relatively stable during this period, and the conditions are ideal for trekking. However, remember that the mountains’ weather can be unpredictable, and you should be prepared for sudden changes in weather conditions.

Yes, you’ll need to bring various specialized equipment for K2 trekking, including sturdy hiking boots, a warm sleeping bag, a waterproof tent, warm clothing, and a good-quality backpack. You may also want to consider bringing a trekking pole and a headlamp.

The altitude of K2 Base Camp is approximately 5,150 meters (16,900 feet) above sea level. Acclimatizing appropriately to the high altitude is essential to avoid altitude sickness. You should spend several days at lower altitudes to allow your body to adjust to the altitude before ascending higher.

Trekking K2 is generally safe, but inherent risks are associated with any high-altitude trekking. You should always trek with an experienced guide and be prepared for emergencies. It’s essential to listen to your body and be aware of the symptoms of altitude sickness, such as headache, dizziness, and nausea. If you experience these symptoms, you should immediately descend to a lower altitude.
